Peace In The Realm

Green Buddha“People travel to wonder at the height of mountains,

at he huge waves of the sea,

at the long course of rivers,

and they pass by themselves

without wondering.”

St. Augustine

Everyone seems to be “on holiday” but me! Thea went to Santa Fe, Polly has been in San Diego, Jenna is in Paris, Lucy off  to Texas, Gogi camping in the cool mountains…Alice is doing Wild West shows in the Midwest,  Miranda is at a writer’s residency in New England. But I’m here, in Tucson, for another sizzling summer! Taking care of our beloved WildHeart Ranch is a full time job in the heat. Stewarding and celebrating WildHeart is at the center of what my heart is called to do. Our tiny piece of the diverse and magical Sonoran Desert is home to so much LIFE! redWe have coyotes, roadrunners, tortoises, cardinals, jack rabbits, jackand sometimes, diamondback rattlers to make it interesting! Western Diamondback_1There are gardens to tend…garden flowersjune garden 5and art to make, books to read, movies to watch, naps to take, and the wonderful peace that comes to our realm in the heat of summer.

Creation of anything…a poem, a healthy plant, a happy critter, a safe place for Great Horned owls to roost..Great Horned Owl_1is my heart’s true calling…so WildHeart is the place I vacation in summer…eager for monsoon, the drench and downpour, the thunder and lightning andlooking forward to the new green gush that will come!

wildheart flagThis is my plan:

Begin here.

Then move forward.

Keep going.

Rest frequently.

Look around.

Celebrate along the way.

Ask questions.

Listen to the answers.

Talk to people.

Be quiet.

Laugh a lot.

Try not to be scared.

Be grateful.

Spread joy.

Keep going.

Enjoy the trip.

Remember,

The journey

Is the adventure.

Happy Summer my friends–wherever you are–BE THERE–fully, happily, and with gratitude!

Spiritual Practice, Practice, Practice!

Several of you have asked if I have any particular insight about how to live a calm, centered, spiritual life. TrilobyteFirst of all, have you had a glimpse at my life lately? Often over-booked and under-staffed, running between work and Cottage classes, up until the very wee hours finishing a report or trying to meet a deadline, mentoring two dozen VERY energetic young women in my Girlz With HeART program, my life lacks every important criteria for a calm, centered, spiritual life…or does it? Up this morning at 5 to water our many gardens, feed the birds & tortoises, and attend to the myriad of tasks Summer in Tucson brings to WidlHeart RanchOur OwlI was blessed to see this beautiful Great Horned Owl (who calls our huge Mesquite his home) make his last swoop throught the yard as the sun rose. There were darting hummingbirds chittering at the feeder and the baby quail have, overnight it seemed, gone from little puff balls to tiny, wind-up versions of their parents. The tomatoes are coming in like crazy and sometimes I manage to rescue the perfect one from the random pecking of the pesky Curve Billed Thrashers. Meditation AreaIn these quiet,  dawning hours of the day I find myself feeling enormously calm, centered, and spiritual. I see the inner-connectedness of all life. I trust the Universe has a plan and I am a part of it and if I just slooooow down long enough, it will be revealed to me. And I find myself smiling, heart happy, looking forward to another busy, complicated day…but thrilled that I glimpsed this beautiful, fleeting cacti flower this morning before it’s gone forever by sunset, Ceres Bloom

and that I have a Beloved who has a delicious breakfast resdy for me to enjoy, liesurely, with him over the papers and the small, happy, domestic murmuring that fills my life with such JOY!Trust Your Heart Yes, as it turns out, I do have some advice about a spiritual life…practice, practice, practice living in gratitude and loveand trust your heart!

Here’s hoping you have a very happy day and take a few moments to feel blessed!

What I Learned…Friends Are Awesome!

Well, last week I poured my heart out to you…about the anniversary of my Dad’s passing, my Sweetheart’s health issues, and my own rather muddled heart. ?????????This is a piece of my art that represents how I was feeling. I had sort of lost my way…but the good news is that I left a few bread crumbs here and elsewhere and my wonderful friends found me and brought me back…Marnie and I went to our Sunday morning clay class (we refer to it as our Church of Creatology!) and had a long, luscious Sunday afternoon buffet with various chocolate elixirs (which are known healing agents!)

Wonderful cards began to appear in my mailbox and were tucked under my windshield wipers…a whole gaggle of flowers arrived and a couple of yummy casseroles found their way to the fridge. And, wonder of wonders,Albert in BisbeeAlbert felt ever so much better! He even took some time to teach some kids Albert With Tortsabout the wonderous desert tortoises that share WildHeart Ranch with us.Breakfast TreatsSummer MagicAnd our Ceres cacti blossomed! And peace returned to my realm!Buddha BisbeeAnd it is you, my dear and constant friends, that I have to thank for pulling me out of the mire, dusting me off, cheering me up, and reminding me just how very lucky I am to be loved and cared for. What you taught me is that there is a certain grace in accepting attention, kindness, and care…just as there is grace in giving it! THANK YOU ALL For your Grace…I’m learning to accept it with gratitude and wonder!
