No expectation, no fear

Just be totally present,

Open yourself to possibilities

You can’t

lizardGuess what? I’m going to see my sister after 30 years! I’m soooo excited.  It’s been such a huge dream of mine to reunite with her and I feel so blessed to have a chance to skip up to her goat ranch in the mountains around Yosemite for a few days. My Beloved Albert will take care of our wonderful WildHeart Ranch (which is no easy task as the days heat up to over a hundred degrees!) while I flit up to celebrate my sister’s birthday. It’s a little scary…thirty years since I saw her last! But we’re so much alike–country girls who love nature and the creative life, who would rather spend time in the garden and the barn than inside, who believe in fairies and like to dance around giggling in our tutus. I can’t wait to see her! Here she is! Doesn’t she look like fun!

KimSo I’m off for a weekI’ve got my June Cottage classes posted for you–the classes you especially requested–mostly Saturdays for June because the 7 to 12 year old young women that I mentor (Girlz With HeART) are out of school and I have promised to do most of their summer enrichment activities and a creativity camp that will keep me very busy!  And check out the fun Tuesdays With Thea” classes too!

Please sign up for some June classes–it’s how I keep the Cottage afloat and help the Girlz have a fun summer–and you deserve a couple of cool hours of creative play with other delightful women!

Besides, I want to tell you all about my fabulous reunion with my sister Kim!

Love to you from one happy soul, your Mistress of Merriment Kait.

Delicious Gelatos

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same moment.” Thomas Merton

gelatos 2What a wonderful week! I’m so pleased to have had the pleasure of Albert’s sister Karen and mate Aat visiting from Holland! We’ve  shared movies (we loved the gritty last film of Phillip Seymour Hoffman–God’s Pocket and the luscious new Tilda Swinton film!) and music (there is no place like Tucson for talented local music!) and domino championships (I’m the Champion of the World!)  They treated us to the fanciest of all places for a scrumptious dinner at Hacienda del Sol where we were serenaded by a Spanish classical guitarist as we watched a gorgeous sunset over the beautiful Catalinas! We even had a delightful dessert–which reminds me…there are so many new art making products out there that it’s hard to keep up….( smooth segue huh?)

When I heard about Gelatos™ I thought it was a dessert to be enjoyed while painting! (TeeHee!)

Last week I had a full class of talented dames (Cissy, Polly, Lucy, Celeste,  Jacky, & Beatriz) who wanted to experiment with this creamy, vibrant, water-soluble pigment…and here are some of the fantastic results!

Thanks for your love and support…it means the world to me!

Check back this next weekend for my whole summer schedule of classes and be sure to pick a few and come enjoy the fun! Sign up early–classes have been filling fast and you don’t want to miss out on the merriment!

May Day, May Day!

Welcome FriendsInstructions for living a life:

Pay attention.

Be Astonished.

Tell about it.

Mary Oliver from Red Bird

The most amazing thing happened! Really! Sometimes I just marvel at life and all the gifts that fall from the sky. Literally…fall from the sky!

Twelve years ago, at a rather painful dip in my life, surrounded by a lot of drama and chaos and uncertainty, when I was feeling SOOOOO low-down, funky, and very sorry for myself, a tiny kitten found its way (through an absolutely impossible set of circumstances–ask me about it sometime!) to my front door and collapsed, near death. I scooped it up and for weeks thereafter I poured my whole heart into her, forgetting all my own woes.  She returned to life; grateful, loving, and so incredibly loyal. She was my constant companion for a dozen years and I never failed to be grateful for the lesson she taught me about the healing power of love. Her name was Petite Sirah and she died a few weeks ago–leaving a sad little hole in my otherwise so incredibly happy life!

She was irreplaceable and I couldn’t even begin to think about going to the Pima County Animal Shelter (where I find the most wonderful pets!) to look for another kitty just yet. But last Friday the fates had a different plan for me…(as they so often do!) My Sweetheart came in from his morning rounds at WildHeart–feeding the birds and our little herd of desert tortoises, watering my herb garden, sauntering out to the road to pick up the morning news–with something in his hand. “Kaitie, I need you to tell me if we can save this little creature or I should just help it have a peaceful passage,” he said quietly, unfurling his fingers. Inside was a tiny orange kitten, weak and limp, looking up with troubled eyes. Punkin-found“Where in the world did you find it?” I asked. “In the middle of a cactus and agave patch in front of the house, in the middle of no where, acres away from other houses.” We think that it must have been dropped by an owl and somehow survived the fall and shock.

Something you need to know about me: I’m the “go to” gal for medical crisis, the patient friend who helps get you through your chemo therapy, the kind advisor who encourages you to get that shingles prevention injection. People have forever been bringing me broken critters in shoeboxes, dogs with broken legs, goats with an abscess. No surprise: I have been a nurse, an EMT, and a vet tech. I worked at a wildlife rehabilitation station for years.

I care! I care and I will do anything humanly possible to help if I can.  So, “Yes, I said, yes, let’s try to save him!”

And so we have. Every day he grows a little stronger. Punkin-shawl A little more trusting. A lot more curious and playful and full of love!Punkin-basket His name is Punkin’ and he is a joy to us every single day…fallen from the sky,

Punkin-tea cup

and right into our hearts!

P. S. I can’t help thinking Sirah sent him to us–what do you think?
