AUTUMN!!!! I Love It!

ButterflyFinally, the sizzle and siren of summer is over and the cool mornings and gorgeous evenings are back–overnight it seems! And I LOVE it!!!! Autumn at last–my favorite season!

The fall classes I have planned for The Cottage are going to be such fun (check out the”Creative Cottage Classes” tab above to see them and sign up quick–Autumn classes fill fast!)

My Sweetheart and I have planned lots of great camping trips and our sleepy summer old pueblo is gearing up for the magical Day of The Dead parade and all the theater and music and outdoor autumnal  festivals I love so much!

What am I up to you ask…? Well…I’m working on  several large scale art projects…three really large canvases, a whimsical little paper mache village of magical creatures, and some big, juicy art journals!

I’m also tidying up my home studio (okay–it’s really just a scruffy old garage that I’ve tried to transform into a cool creative space, which is not so easy to do with a washer, storage boxes, and a boat load of garden & carpentry tools in the same space!)

And, did I tell you, I saved up and bought a funky, old, used table top kiln so I can work on more clay projects…like this heart mirror I made for my sister Kim (don’t tell her–it’s a secret!) Heart Mirrorand this emerald green dish I made just  ‘cuz it’s my favorite color and looks so nice with the water lilies, dontcha think? Pottery Project 2In all this creative fever I’ve not had much time for housework…but I heartily subscribe to the philosophy that…Dull Womenand looking around at the dust bunnies I must be a very interesting woman! (tehe!)

In this beautiful season, I wish you joy and the gentleness of cool mornings and evenings, the tinting of leaves, the bringing in of the harvest, and the deep peace that comes from knowing your friend Kaitlin, Mistress of Wild Merriment and Mirth, is sending you happy thoughts and fond wishes for a big, juicy surge of creative energy! threads of love© Kaitlin Meadows. 2013. Hippie Beach Bunny Returns!

Hostel HippieWhat a wonderful adventure! Our Second Annual Girlz Road Trip to Ocean Beach, California was such FUN!!!   Marnie beach

Marnie and I had a blast and are still sort of on “vacation time” in our heads…there’s still beach sand between my toes! Here’s the view from our patio…the beach was literally right across the street!Beach ViewWe got up early every morning (what’s up with that?–we were on vacation!) because we loved walking along the foggy shoreline searching for treasures…the air was so cool and damp and sweet and healing for us Tucson desert babesthe colors and textures of seaweed were amazingPink SeaweedSeaweed bulbSeaweed Tangle

and we brought lots of sea detritus (isn’t that a groovy word?) back to our hotel room courtyard patio…to dry on our wrought iron table…hoping to use it for lots of cool art projects!Beach crapseaweed We even saw beach crop circlesBeach Crop CircleAnd the colorful hippie throwback street art that we so love about Ocean BeachBeach love 2fishI had a chance to visit with my dear friends Sandi & Ski at their beautiful WindSong Gardens in Santee…Ski N Sandi Nielubowicz taken at Rose N Gene's 50th by Jerry WilliamsSandi is my soul sisterSandi & Kaitlin Autumn 2011 and Ski was instrumental in giving me the wings I needed to find the life of joy I have in Tucson!

What a wonderful, relaxing, quenching time I had on our Girlz Beach Trip!…I had such fun refilling my nearly empty tanks and drinking in the sight and smell and feel of the beautiful Pacific Ocean from the beautiful courtyard of the Ocean Beach Hotel (we LOVE this place!) Hotel Courtyard with it’s window onto the beach where every night we’d watch glorious of sunsets…(while commenting on all the colorful “characters” that make this old hippie beach community so charming!)Sunset Window

It’s going to be very hard to get back into the swing of things!…I still hear the waves in my head and crave the long, cool mornings sipping coffee at Java Jungle, shopping at all the funky beach shops, eating delicious cheeseburgers with icy chocolate milkshakes at Hodads, and just sitting for hours on the beach with Marnie sharing our secrets & stories and giggling like schoolgirls together!

What a beautiful time we had!…we’re already planning out Third Annual Ocean Beach Girlz Road TripMeanwhile, this is what we remember most…beautiful sunsets…and very happy times together!Best sunsetI’ll try to get the October schedule done for fabulous Cottage classes in the next couple of days–please note there are some schedule changes on the September schedule as my Sweetheart is surprising me by whisking me away for a few days on an autumnal camping adventure to celebrate my birthday on the 17th! Yiiiippppiiiiieeee–the “vacation mode” continues!

Desert BarrelAnd, pretty much beats all the other options, dontcha think? Don’t know about you, but this summer was particularly long and hot and fraught for me and mine. There was the usual–HEAT, HUMIDITY, and (did I mention?) HEAT! Though I love it, Tucson is just noooo place for us verdant Irish types who prefer your basic green, lush, water-drenched, mossy, cool climes. I flat out drool with envy when my amazing friend James talks about his place in Searsport, Maine and his lovely GREEN world…minutes from the sea. But I made it through another summer in Tucson…AND, as a reward, I’m on the verge of a wonderful girlz road trip with my dear friend Marnie to Ocean Beach in San Diego…I’ve always wanted to be a mermaid! Mermaid DreamWe’ll wander the shoreline at dawn, lay in the warm sand dozing (pretending to read War & Peace),  saunter out to the very tip of the pier (the longest on the West coast!) where we’ll have breakfast with all the salty old fishermen, play in the amazing Pacific waves, shop at all the fun tacky shell shops, eat a scrumptious cheeseburger at Hodads, drag back all sorts of driftwood & sea debris to our funky hotel (the Ocean Beach Hotel, across the street from the ocean!) We’ll have our morning coffee & cream cheese smeared sesame bagels on the eclectic patio of  Jungle Java, eat the amazing basil pesto & gorgonzola ravioli at Ciao Bella for lunch,  and watch luscious sunsets every night with cool intoxicants in our hands! Yiiippppiiiieeee!

Meanwhile, here’s a tiny recap of August classes and a little bit of this from The Creative Cottage to hold you while I pack my beach bag and get ready for my escape! These are some beautiful papers made by my talented playmates at the Creative Cottage in the Paper Mania class…PaperMania1PaperMania2Here are some pages from Gogi & Sarah’s Copper Books…the class was sooooo fun! Gogi's CopperCopper Insides 3Sarah's CopperCopper Insides 2Copper Insides

So…go check out the September schedule and sign up for some very fun classes so I’ll have something to come back to Tucson for!

Love Love Love Dear Hearts

P.S. It was a very busy summer! The Creatology Camp for my at risk girlz (7 to 12 years of age) went great! It was loads of fun and the Girlz With HeART really inspired all of us with their creativity, leadership building, and just plain gumption (dontcha just love that word?)!  With the generous support of you, my friends, and the resourcefulness of the Girlz (and their monthly flea market sales!) we managed to get them all new outfits, back packs, shoes, and school supplies…they’re so excited about going back to school. They worked hard all summer to get their skills above grade level and each of them is working hard to get on the honor roll. I’m so proud of them!

Thank you all for your love and encouragement of this wonderful project–I couldn’t do it without you!
